Great recorder great price! I'm a graduate student starting my dissertation research so I needed a recorder for interviewing and taking verbal notes during my observations. I haven't started using it yet in the field but I've played around with it quite a bit and I'm really pleased with the simplicity of use and the recording quality.

Great digital recorder This is an easy to use lightweight digital recorder that you can fit into your shirt pocket. The screen is fairly large and easy to see and it works like any other digital recorder so it's easy to use. Digital Voice Recorder I wasn't sure how this recorder would work but I absolutely LOVE it! I got it for ghost hunting I haven't caught anything yet but I'm sure I will.
I would recommend this to anyone who wants a recorder for any purpose. I use mine for Ghost Hunting. This recorder works amazing. It picks up details around you that you don't hear with the naked ear. I use it for ghost hunting so I am not using in inside a classroom or anything like that but it would work great for that as well. It plays back loud and clear. I would recommend this for anyone that needs a voice recorder for any purpose. The back light and display light up great for nighttime use.
Incomplete Package When i received the package the outer carton of the product mentioned that the box contained the batteries and the carrying case as well. However the box did not contain either of this. I am surprised. I believed in shopping with Amazon trusting its brand credibility. If there are exceptions on the product i believe it would help if it is clearly specified on the website.Of course when i bought the product the site had no mention about the carrying case. I therefore spent money separately to buy this.So i am now unsure which is true. Did the site miss out to mention about the case or was the packing compromised.
WS700M Digital Recorder Small and lightweight. Performs satisfactorily for my purpose. Once a file is saved you cannot add to that file you must create a new file. MicroSD card slot adds to internal memory.
Epic FAIL. Did you record that? uh no broken Can you go below a onestar review?I should have paid attention to the negative reviews. I have had this professional product for yes you guessed it four months just outside the weak warranty period way to stand behind your products Olympus of course. I am a professional journalist and rely on voice recorders so I did a ton of research before I went with trusty Olympus spending $134 I see it's down to $99 now no surprise considering the unreliability they're probably trying to unload them. I'm very careful with my professional equipment which I depend upon. I've been a longtime Olympus fan digital video and still cameras but this thing is the worst.
Cute little recorder So far I am very pleased with the functions of the recorder it was simple to set up and start recording and it also included a extra disc for recording you can record on the recorder itself or record to a disc you instal on the side so you have plenty of space for recording anthing you need and it gave me plenty of space for what I needed the recorder for .

If you turn off VCVA and just press the record button manually it will record the same conversation flawlesslyeven the parts that were previously too low in volume to be detected by the VCVAthe low cut filter is not functional low cut filter=filters out noise and only records voice It will cut out entire segments of conversation even when there is little background noise. When the feature is off and you manually record the conversation it plays back flawlessly the background noise is there but it does not make the voices unintelligible. Due to the feature not functioning properly there is a limit on this device you can not use it in places where there is too much background noise or if the background noise is higher in volume than the speaker doing so requires you to download the file and use software to manually define the noise and cut it out lots and lots of work unless you have plenty of experience doing so.Other thoughtsgood alternative brand sony great user interface designavoid brands other than olympus and sony ex philips RCA etcones with more memory is wasteful to me the 4G and up versions do not have significantly longer battery life so the maximum amount you can record at one time is similar to the 2G ones. Only situation where the 4G and up ones might be beneficial is if you have access to more replacement batteries or an outlet to charge with but does not have access to a computer to download to. Or if you are using this as an ipod/iphone substitute and keep a large collection of mp3s to listen tokeep in mind the playback life time is only ~14hrs per charge on this devisemore expensive ones with built in USB charger tends to have less durability due to charger breaking over time. Easy to upload files! Great sound! Olympus VN8100PC Digital Voice Recorder with Olympus Case is easy to carry great case sound is excellent and files are extremely easy to upload and manage. Pretty powerful no *real* complaints but This little digital recorder certainly performs no doubt about that. As far as any issues with quality I have yet to find any real drawbacks it is always helpful to remember for a 2GB device you're getting a *lot* of punch. I've had mine just over a month with the case at a price around $62 now they seem to be selling at $69 and my Seller now has them listed at $89 ?. NOTE I just checked 3/11/12 and the price is back down to around $66 ? again!I can see the tech features they've packed into this tiny recorder it is NOT 1.2 lbs and the USB cable is definitely included. But other elements well without too much effort you have to work out on your own. Other reviewers have mentioned the lack of clarity in the instructions spot on. The 'forced' use of Folders AE not sure why they're not an option. I also get more accustomed to accessing the files on the recorder related to date and time but when you move them to a PC the naming convention is by file order. Not that big of a problem except when you erase a recording it reorders the files so there's no continuity when you move them to your PC. **UPDATE To be clear it doesn't RENAME the files or Resequence them it just confuses ya because I get more accustomed to looking for the files via WHEN I recorded them It would be better IMHO if the naming convention stuck to a date/time stamp method.When you're in menu mode it can be too easy to change a setting without knowing it. And after 5 minutes of nonuse the recorder goes into 'standby/sleep' mode if you're not watching the screen you'll miss the See You message and likely forget that any key wakes it up. I'm not sure how that varies to actually shutting the recorder off batterywise.None of those small distinctions of course are documented. Awesome Recorder Bought this to record several interviews. It is great. It probably has lots of other features that I have not used yet but for straightforward recording it is great. I also wasted money on a microphone to go with it. I have not even opened that package. Serves it's purpose This recorder is very good at detecting sound from a pretty good distance. I purchased it to collect evidence and hid it inside a shoe lol and you could still hear everything clearly. It is pretty easy to use.I gave it 4 stars because I do not like that it has no lighting it's impossible to use in the dark. Sony SX68 Product does everything we want it to do and that very simply. Software manages filing and editing. One downside for us is the fact that the that the documentation said something which led us to believe that the recorder has an input plug for an external power supply. It does not. We have found it cost effective and handy to plug into an external source because 1 it saves buying batteries 2every presentation is recorded week in week out. The battery meter does work well and as long as one watches it the batteries can be replaced. Also the plug for external power does allow one to charge rechargeable batteries but the recorder cannot be powered through this plug. Cheers. poor pickup cuts out I have no idea why but it will be working fine then suddenly cut out and then a moment later back in. i have to have the gain on my mixer almost all the way up before it works somehow there seems to be a threshold before it can even start to pick up. I didn't see a listing for cord length but it's too short for comfort with karaoke and the cord seems thin and flimsy. Mic itself is very cheap and flimsy feeling. Sony Omnidirectional Microphone for Computer Review Not happy. I read some of these other reviews that stated that this mic was cheap and did not pick up sound very well. I should have paid attention but it was cheap and it was from Sony so I figured how could I go wrong. Well the mic is a piece of junk and worthless to me. You have to cup your hand around the the end and with you mouth just a 1/2 inch from it's surface you have to shout for anything to be recorded at a near normal level. Perhaps this would be of some benefit for loud singing but for normal speaking level it is completely useless. It was cheap enough that I just wrote it off as the time and effort it would of taken to repackage and repost would not of been cost effective. Don't buy it. Spend a little more money and get something that works. I made reviews on my other recorders the WS110 960PC and 1800 here in Amazon so you can compare. All four models are sitting on my table as I type. 'Mike' did a review after mine here. You might want to read his review before reading mine. He brings up certain points which aren't wholly relevant to my usage but might be important for yours. So what he says I don't cover in this review.MY USAGE so you can decide whether to keep reading I intend to use this unit primarily as a portable storage device plus to record lectures make memos and especially to do voiceovers for my 'brainouty' Youtube videos.So I Just got this 702PC from Amazon. It is my fourth Olympus recorder I've been using them for years and all of them still work well on 7/17/2012 the 1800 died because I left the batteries in it for too long. With these recorders you should remove batteries if you'll not use the unit for awhile. Else the batteries can corrode the contact wires or the long storage makes the software go crazy. You don't lose your recording if you remove the batteries for it's all stored on a chip. You only lose the date and time and maybe some of the other settings for the recorder. But you can't lose the recordings.This 702PC has special features the others even later models don't have. My review here will be piecemeal as the microSD card ordered for this unit hasn't yet arrived so I've not tested it. I'm testing on XP Professional all service packs installed.================= PHYSICALITIES ======================This unit feels more substantial comfortable in the hand versus the other models I have. It is about the thickness width and heft of three AAA batteries it holds 2 which ship with the unit about the height of a CD jewel case. Big convenient buttons. Optionally big letters on the LCD screen. Too much glare from the face plate. Contrast levels also don't seem to make any difference. Very nice recorder Purchased the recorder to replace another Olympus I lost recently. Used it every day without any issues. The new recorder is better yet. The voice files can be transferred to my PC. Looking forward to not losing this one and years of great service. Good little recorder I purchased this to record conversations in an office setting. It works well and the playback through a PC is very clear. With my other recorder an old Sony I liked to review recordings while driving with the recorder on the console. This unit will not allow this because the sound gets raspy with the volume way up. I have to turn the volume back and hold it. The sound in a home or office setting is fine. AMAZING! This little guy is fabulous at catching my lectures! The sound is great! I have no problem listening to my recordings right after class through earphones or even through the AUX outlet in my car!It was very easy to transfer the recording to my computer. The recorder is pretty easy to use. The index function is pretty handy to help mark important parts of your recording.I've only used it for one day so far but if I change my feelings about this recorder I will update my review. Love it I love this recorder is has all the functions that I need my teacher lectures very fast and this give me good quality sound when listening back. Great product I have purchased over 20 of these for field recordings. All 20 have worked right out of the packaging with no problems. I love that these will record directly to MP3 so they are Mac friendly. Battery life AAA on these is quite good. Recording quality is great for what it is designed for. The direct USB is a nice feature but you HAVE to have the software installed on your PC in order for your computer to even detect anything is plugged in. Argh. I wouldn't have bought this item if I had read these Amazon reviews first. There is guaranteed a better product allaround for your needs. Nice Product! The product is perfect in the sense that I recieved it quickly and it works perfectly. There are some technological difficulties that cannot be changed but overall the product is really nice. Being able to record audio and load it directly to a computer is a really convenient way to allow prosumers maximize their productivity. Nice recorder Sony formatted files not helpful The recordered has some nice features like being able to select folders that you want to record the sessions into. However the sound is recordered in a proprietary sony format. You need to download software to make Media Player play it. What makes things really annoying is there is no clean method by which you can save it into a normal format for sharing with other people. Why on earth didn't Sony use WAV or MP3 format is beyond my comprehension.Recording quality is decent when you are within 6 feet of a person and have the recorder in plain view. However if you are further away and want to keep the discrete like in your pocket the sound quality is terrible. Save your money I was excited about some of the features of this product along with the price for what's offered. Said features stopped me from giving this a 1star rating. Unfortunately the sound quality is HORRIBLE compared to others I've heard many of which are less expensive. And the format of the created file isn't very versatile either. Such a shame Save your money for a different product. what a POS I have never bought a bad Sony product until now. This is an embarassment to Sony The deveopment team for this POS should be assigned to a ball bearing factory. The speaker has no resolution so there is no quick play back capability and the overall interface is cumbersome at best. Miserable Directions I could never get this thing to work. Start dictating want to stop and can't figure out how to do it without going back to the beginning. The directions manual is worthless. Very Poor Sound Quality I bought this because of the Sony name and am regretting it now the sound quality is horrible. I'm a med student and use it to record lectures the sound quality is so bad I can't understand the lecturer. Sound quality extremely bad compared to competition I bought this recorder 10 months ago. Afterwards I have had many devices with voice recording ability and this is my ranking of the sound quality.1. edirol r9 field recorder2. iriver T10 mp3 player3. Olympus ws320 voice recorder4. Sony icdu 60 voice recorderThe sony recorder is actually very bad compared to the other devices also the iriver mp3 player that is about the same size. The sound quality is amazingly bad and is a misuse of the sony name. Exclusive not Mac compatible Sony failed Proprietary format and although it is a FAT16 flash drive when plugged into a PC for some reason it cannot be seen on a Mac. Sony exclusivity is a big mistake. Don't buy this it will just be a big hassle trying to read process share the files. You might smash it with a sledge hammer and send to sony with a note. The buttons layout etc are nice typical of Sony and solid well made although the unit is big by current standards. 1 AAA battery. As an external drive storange device it is useless as it is not Mac compatible. Old technology fobbed off on unsuspecting buyers If the default date is any indication this recorder was manufactured in 2006. It is at least a generation older probably more than the recorder I am replacing. Rather than record mp3 files that automaticlly open iTunes when the recorder is inserted into the USB drive it uses a proprietary software that is too old to run on VISTA. In short I must go to the expense of returning it and hope I get my money back. Nowhere in the product description does it indicate that this recorder uses superceded technology and is incompatible with newer PCs. This is the 4th time I've bought this product and as all things do it has it's pros & cons. The 1st one I bought I'll admit I broke myself. Buy a case. It seems to fit ok into any iphone or itouch leather case which I've been able to find online for $6$10. It's worth it. I cracked the screen on my first one when I put it in the bag with a 12pk o' beer. It's now a 16gb storage unit. The 2nd one I bought I used more ruggedly cause I had a case & ran into 2 more problems. 1st the headphone jack. I somewhat damaged it by too much yanking on the wire while it was in my pocket. I thought it was just the headphones at first. The 2nd problem I ran into and my major concern is the power switch. One way powers on/off the other way is the hold function which renders all touch screen & other buttons off. Unfortunately this switch is a spring activation switch which has to be held for at least 10 to 20 seconds before the unit comes on. And if that wasn't bad enough my switch broke. Now my player can only be turned on by connecting it to my computer and can only be turned off by setting the auto shutoff. Also the touchscreen functions seem to have very slow reactions. HOWEVER!!! for the price it plays all music files & most simple video formats avi. divx. xvid. mp4. mp5 pretty well. If you're a torrent downloader you'll like this product for the price. If you like or have mac devices itunes iphone or itouch. Don't bother. Awful I just got this a couple of hours ago and I can easily say I regretted it as soon as I opened it up. Looks cheap feels cheap and works like it's cheap.The touchscreen is a joke. Inaccurate and you have to punch it just to get it to do anything.Loads of other issues but I can't be bothered to waste anymore time on this product. BEWARE!!! Is mine defective or is this model just not adequate for the job? Looking over reviews of the Olympus WS500 I decided to upgrade from a WS400S. The features are similar except for greater storage capacity and availability of music mode on the WS500. However the voice quality and pick up range of the WS500 I received is really inadequate compared to both the WS400 I am using now and my older VN4100 PC which is less convenient but has the best sound quality. The screen also has a more greenishgrey tint that is harder to see than the WS400. That's irritating but even more important for me is thisI cannot use this recorder for interviews or even conference presentations. Whether on conference or dictation mode the sound quality is just weak and barely audible. Good stuff This thing works pretty well. I am amazed at the sound quality. I use it to record law school lectures and it works perfectly even when I sit in the back of the class. Overall I am very pleased with the item.But make sure it comes with the rechargeable battery b/c this thing goes through batteries pretty quick. The seller I bought from like new didn't include the battery not cool. Otherwise I am very satisfied with this purchase. Great Device This is only my second voice recorder ever owned but this will definatly be the last one I own for a few years. I performs great for what I use it for. Which would be ghost hunting. I know it sounds stupid but it's definatly fun and a decent hobby. Well I've already caught a couple good EVPs on it from the Lodge in Cloudcroft NM.It picks up sound great. I had it in the middle of the room and it picked up my breathing while I was sleeping.Great product. I fully reomend it for anyone. Real easy to use also. A Student's Tool! I'm a college student. This has been one of my best investments to my education. The recorder is perfect as a student for recording lecture. I usually set my recorder next to the lecturer on his desk or near him even if he moves around that way the desk is undisturbed and you won't be bothered by your own movement noises or by your fellow students. Even with 10 ft distance it picks up the voice very well. The recorder is also very light weight! It is convenient because it also has a USB right in the device so you don't have to worry about carrying a USB cable with you. It comes with a rechargeable battery which is a major plus. You just have to hook it up which pressing the 'stop' button to a computer to charge it. The 'Hold' Button works as an 'OFF' button to save battery energy. 2GB is a generous amount of space for you to save various lectures of varying lengths. Not only that you can even use the device as a USB flash drive for transferring files. When you listen to your audio files you even have an option to listen to the audio SLOW Normal Fast which i find exceptionally useful. need microscope to read This recorder's printing on the buttons and on the screen are way too small to use effectively. It's not like everybody is young and doesn't need reading glasses. Really annoying and the screen is not bright so the small print really discourages use. I really hate companies that cram the type 6 or smaller font onto buttons and expect customers to be able to read it. Great recorder! I love this recorder. I use it to record university lectures and listen to them when I study. Even if I don't sit close to the front it records so clearly. The sound when I plug in my earbuds is great! That way she can store recordings of every lecture from every class on her computer. She is then able to play them back in the evening to take detailed notes that wouldn't be possible in real time. She says some of her professors give memorable lectures that are worth having just as recordings too.Overall this is a great tool for the money easy to use and less expensive than units from other companies. It's just okay I expected this voice recorder to be larger than it is. It's quite small and fits easily into your hand. It's lightweight and not all that hard to use. It wasn't like that when I first got it but now after about a year I have to hold it close to my ear when I play it back. My daughter loves playing with it and I've even used it to record phone conversations. not for who really needs a digital recorder In primitivism a digital record without pc connection surpasses the cassette recorder. with the later there is no limit of possible records. Very limited pc connectability The VN4100pc was given to our notforprofit. We will find use for it but it has serious problems.We had hoped to use it for recording oral history interviews by loaning it out to members some of whom are not technically orientated.1. It will not work with our 64bit Vista computer. The Olympus site says it is not compatible with that OS.2. The software must be installed on every computer that it connects to i.e. no drag and drop transfer.3. Its best mode is 4bit/22kHz for a bit rate of 88kbps. As a comparison the little $30 Sansa Clip MP3 records voice at 16bit/24kHz or 384 kbps but does not have as good a microphone.4. We have no Macs but some of our members might. Its not compatible with Macs.Its internal microphone seems good. Its controls are a big improvement over our older Olympus DS2.If you intend to use it on more than one computer this is not a good choice. very useful! very useful little recorder! i use it constantly & have the ear piece and the mic. handy little gadget especially for reporters anyone that needs a reminder to do something & doesn't want to write it down if you are learning a new language & want to record your voice etc. So many different uses very inexpensive worth getting one.
