Great investment for professionals I've been a professional writer for 20 years and this is one of the best tools I've ever had in my line of work. I've used it for both inperson and telephone interviews and it's worked perfectly every time. The sound quality the mic sensitivity the huge memory the ease of use the battery life the small size everything about it is fantastic. For phone interviews I just put the phone on speaker and set the recorder next to it. A piece of cake! No more clunky tape recorders or phone adapters! Plus after you copy the file to your hard drive you can use audio software to play it at halfspeed for transcribing.
I've enjoyed mine over a year now. Got mine over a year ago and used it HEAVY for the first 3 months. Dont use it nearly as much any more but still find it awesome and easy to use. Record and drop it on your harddrive to burn to CD for lasting copies. I have never had a good recorder before so this one sets the standard for me.
Unreliable My 2 complaints make me loath to recommend this unit to anyone for field work.First the sound quality is not great in a meeting setting. You will barley pick up parts of the discussion you would easily hear in the room even with the unit pointing directly at the speaker if he is a couple of yards away. But even if it worked fine in meetings the switches on the side are flimsy. One is for Hold and the other switches the unit between voice and music. These switches are plastic and sometimes make contact when you do not intend them to. This can stop your recording. It can also wake your unit when it is sitting in your bag or pocket causing the batteries to drain.
Great for a student I would recommend anyone going to school have one of these. I bought this for my wife 3 years ago and have had no problems. It holds hours of lectures and is easy to operate. Battery lasts a good amount of time and batteries are easy to find and cheap to replace. My wife is not the easiest on electronics and it has held up to her abuse just fine.
It's almost like throwing a third ear out into the audience for feedback This is an amazing machine. I've had mine for around a year and as a musician I find it priceless. During sets I simply switch it on throw it in my cord bag which is out in the audience and then switch it off at the end of the set. When I get home I very easily and quickly download the contents onto my computer. This thing's been great for me it's almost like throwing a third ear out into the audience as far as performance feedback goes great flat response from the builtin mics.By the way in case you're wondering it takes me less than twenty minutes to download and burn a CD once I connect it to my Mac I then use the CD to review and practice against while driving in my car throughout the week.
Decent Sound Pathetic Construction I've had this product for a few years. The sound quality is decent and it does what its supposed to however its construction is pathetic. I had to taped the battery cover so I wouldn't loose it. I wouldn't recommend using it to listen to audio especially through its built in speakers because it will drain the battery very quickly. One more issue is its battery life. I take out the batter after every use or the batter would be dead if I wanted to use it the next time and this seam to happen even if I separate the body from the battery cap.
Nice Little Digital Voice Recorder I must admit I was a littlt skeptical about buying a digital voice recorder so I did some online research and came across the Olympus WS32OM 1 GB Digital Voice Recorder and Music Player. It took a little while to master the controls but once I did I started to use this Digital Voice Recorder often. It also transfers sound files easily onto my computer and laptop with its convenient break a way USB adapter. The sound quality is great too.
My Favorite Accessory My WS320M is absolutely wonderful. I carry it with me all the time. I recently went back to college after several years and this voice recorder is great for recording lectures. Since this recorder has several folders I can use a different one for each of my classes.I love the storage capacity 1 GB and am also pleased that it is black since most of my other accessories are as well iPod cell phone & such. It is also less conspicuous when you are recording other things as well i.e. general conversations or concerts.I highly recommend the WS320M. I purchased the Olympus CS112 carrying case to go along with the recorder. Perfect fit.
Poor Support I bought an Olympus W10 a few years ago. Not a bad device but when I tried to install software on my new Vista laptop Olympus told me Too bad. Your device is just outdated. And No we don't have any plans of supporting your device on Windows Vista. I think that says it all. Unless you want to buy one of these every few years.
