Excellent product.,
Better than anything I used for interviews / focus groups, Small but easy to understand interface. Most important, the sound quality is excellent for interviews and focus groups. I haven't played much with the various mic settings or the software that comes with it but since it works so well out of the box, I haven't felt a need to. Build quality good as well. Feels like it will last.
great recorder, I purchased the LS 7 recorder instead of the LS 10 based on a review written by another person. When I called Olmypus for advice re: buying a memory card, I was told that this is not the best recorder for recording meetings & speechs. They did assist me in setting the recorder so I wouldn't require a memory card. I now have 67.5 hours of recording time without a card. I'm perfectly happy with the recorder and the price I paid. The Olmpus tech rep said this is a good recorder for the recording of music. I am very impressed with the help I got from Olympus.They really know their business.
LS-7 Compared, Four weeks ago I bought an Olympus LS-7, and I have to get this off my chest before I explode - the thing rocks! Here's is what I have found.

I have been comparing it to the earlier Olympus LS-10 which I also own, and before that a recorder from a different manufacturer. The other manufacturer's recorder sounded good, but the menu was the most confounding, confusing menu I have ever seen. And that is why I bought the LS-10. It was way easier to use.

The LS-7 sounds better than either of the other two, and the LS-7's menu is every bit as easy to use than that of the LS-10. But the LS-7's sound and functions go much beyond the older LS-10. The LS-7 has a better frequency response on the low end because of its middle microphone. And you can turn off that mic when you don't want the low response. The LS-7 also has an additional frequency in the low cut filter - off, 100 Hz and 300 Hz. What a difference this makes for keeping out air conditioner and furnace fan noise when recording a seminar. I ran side by side comparisons in a large room where I teach workshops, and the 300 Hz low-cut filter did the trick.

The specs on microphone sensitivity are better on the LS-7 than on the LS-10 and the sound level difference it quite noticeable. The LS-7 comes in at a -70 dbv compared to the -59 dbv of the LS-10. The "high" mic sensitivity setting on the older LS-10 seems to be about the same as the "Mid" setting on the LS-7. And with the LS-7's mic sensitivity set on "High," I can talk in a fairly soft voice from 2 feet away and it "pins" the meter.

The battery life is astounding! I've been using the LS-7 every day, and it still has battery life on the original charge I gave it right after I opened the box. My LS-10 would have long since run down the batteries.

Olympus, thank you. You've done it again. This is a great product for musicians, public speakers, students and anyone who ever wants to record a concert, a seminar, a class, or a workshop.
Olympus LS-7 Linear PCM Voice Recorder (142670), The reason for my purchase was to record classroom lectures. This unit is absolutely useless for classroom lectures. It barely picks up my own voice at a distance of 4 feet. I wish advertisers would be more forthcoming about the true usability for classroom lecture recording. The Ls-7 is no better than a $30.00 unit for voice recording. I'm disappointed that Amazon advertises this product as a voice recorder for classroom lectures.

RCA Rp5022 Voice Recorder Usb good product....

Do not buy RCA RP 5022 or 5120 digital recorders, RCA made poor voice recorders. I bought two and went useless (full and no room to record even no files in machine) in couple months. When I contacted RCA "support" department, I got unprofessional and useless reponse. I wish I have read some of your users' reviews before the fact RCA Rp5022 64 Mb Voice Recorder With Usb. Now I buy Olympus.
good product...., while the product was perfect, it is a bit complicated to use...i recommend going through the instructions step by step several times...
No problem under Linux.., At least under Linux, I haven't had any problems at all with it yet.

I picked up one of these for just a few bucks "refurbished" (I'm hoping they upgraded the firmware) in a recent on-line sale. As everyone noted, it shows up properly as a "drive" when plugged in, it has Windows software of some sort on the device itself (I'm not booting into Windows just to see if it's as bad as claimed, will probably just delete it), and the files are in some apparently unique ".VOC" format.

That was a little disappointing, but a few minutes search on-line found a "devoc.c" program with reviews (not sure I'm supposed to link to that from here). Downloaded it, compiled it (very simple), associated the ".VOC" extension with "devoc -p", and now the files play when I click on them. A few minutes more and I had a script working to convert files in batch mode into .wav, and of course they could easily be converted from there to MP3 (or OGG or whatever), but I don't really anticipate needing that myself.

Reviews of devoc say it's MUCH more reliable than the "stock" RCA software.

If you only run Windows but have a Windows C compiler (I don't) you might give it a try, but I haven't. It (devoc) is intended for Linux, so it may not work. The conversion routine probably has a better chance than the " -p" flag to send it directly to the speakers.

You'll be sorry, The reliability and stability of this product is low. The software crashes constantly and the recorder freezes up during use. The only way I found to get it going again was to remove the batteries, but guess what? That causes all your files to disappear. And forget calling customer service. It's useless. DO NOT PUT AN IMPORTANT RECORDING ON THIS DEVICE. You may lose it. Buy a more reliable recorder. RCA makes crap.

Fine Low Capacity, I bought this after getting tired of some other DVRs being so difficult to reconfigure after battery changes. Why do they make recorders that can't remember the date and time of day for even 15 secs. Haven't they heard of flash memory? Heck, they are using it to record our voices.

This is easier to reset and I like the overall control layout better than the other DVRs. It mimics the old tape based recorders.

The only thing I don't like is that activating record mode doesn't work according to the instructions as I read them. To get it to record when it is in "sleep" mode, you have to press the play button whereupon it will "wake up" and then be ready to accept a record command.

The other thing I don't like is its capacity. 64MB is just not enough for the use I have for it. If a version with more capacity, say 128 MB, is available I would get that. Buy maybe this is enough for you.
Don't bother with...., I purchased this device hoping to transcribe already recording meetings which are emailed to me in uncompressed mono audio in WAV files. This device claimed to be able to copy off audio and convert it to wav. Why the heck would anyone want to copy off a proprietary format and then not be able to load even THAT back on the device? The device came with V3.27 of the Digital Voice Manger software but RCA's own webpage has V3.24. Also, the tech support site has broken links and near empty FAQ pages. If a company can not stand by its own product this alone in my eyes is enough of a reason not to buy it. The fact that you can't load audio onto it is a whole issue in itself as well.
RCA Digital Recorder., Nice little recorder though not good for noisy environments. Works well for low price unit but don't expect fantastic sound - just adequate sound. It's definately worth the price for someone whose use is for lectures or non=professional use.
Worth it for the price, Works pretty well. I use it to record lectures during class. I sit at the back of a classroom full of 150 students, and yet it picks up my professors' voices just fine (though, when you set it on a desk and happen to tap a pencil next to it, the playback can be quite painful).

Veho Muvi Pro Micro Camcorder Mis-information about recording

Good Idea, Quality issues with this model, Our office purchased several of these micro recorders for our employees to use on the job. The size was perfect, and initially, they all worked great. But after about 6 months of daily use, they all began failing, one after another, with the same problems.
On the good side, the company we purchased them from, replaced all of them with the Muvi HD10, which cost lots more. Down side, the HD10 is too big for our office use.
If you are looking for a mini camera that is going to be used on a daily basis, the quality is not here.
IF you are looking for a toy camera to use on a limited basis, this one will work.
Great small camcorder with one drawback, Love it, very small and tiny but great videos, only concern is slow USB connection to transfer video files to storage via computer.
Size is nice, but the quality is terrible., The only reason I am giving 2 stars instead of one is due to the fact the form factor is quite nice and works well ... in theory. The video during the day and night was very grainy and extremely low quality (yes I did take off the lens plastic). The audio was worse ... MUCH worse, to the point where I could not make out any type of reasonable sound when I used it briefly as a dash cam in my truck. The audio over amplified everything it picked up to the point of drowning out the audio completely, leave me with a garbled mess. I would not recommend this to anyone who is looking for quality sound or picture. I am not totally counting out Veho as a company however, as I am going to try out their HD10 camera and see if it is what I am looking for, which from what I am able to see on Youtube, it is. Anyways, good idea Veho, but I would definitely bring this guy back to the drawing board and make some DRASTIC changes to the Camera AND the Microphone.
Great product, This is a great product for the price. The camera works well in low light. I was able to get this running very quickly. Only downside - it takes a long time to download and the resolution is not that great. But I am impressed with the quality. Also sound quality is not that great. But overall I love this camera and would definitely recommend to anyone who wants time stamped evidence. With a 4GB SD card I would say recording time would be around 90 minutes.
Veho Muvi Pro Micro DV Camcorder with 4 GB Micro SD, This is a great little camcorder with a very clear picture. However, the recording time is only about an hour and fifteen minutes. I thought it would have a longer recording time.
Not Mac Compatible, What a mess! This was supposed to be Mac Compatible. BEWARE ...it is NOT! All the software is PC. I went to the VEHO web site and guess what, only PC Software is available to download? This item is NOT Mac Compatible. This was a Christmas Gift and now un-useable for a Mac.
Garbage, Thing worked for home use(not even extreme use like biking, etc) for about 2 months. Now won't record, isn't user friendly. And I'm pretty tech savvy. Its really just a cheap piece of Chinese garbage. Consider alternatives to this crap...
Great size, decent video, audio has a problem, I bought this unit to use around the house and out on the street. The unit itself is built very well, sturdy and simple to use. The video it takes is very good for its size if you have good lighting, especially natural sunlight. If you are in a darker area with poor lighting, or unnatural lighting the video degrades quite a bit but for the size of the unit and lens this is to be expected I guess.

My real issue with this product is the audio quality. The first one I bought had a very noticeable scratchy sound like it was picking up some type of interference or something. I thought it was defective. I emailed Veho tech support and they said it was defective and to return it. I did a return/swap with Amazon and got a new one. Same thing. So I went on You Tube and pulled up a few demos there and the same thing - bad audio.

Now, if you're going to be using this for outside action sports it would probably be no big deal since you will be getting wind noise anyway. Note that the recorded ambient sounds like normal conversation do come through loud and clear enough to be heard easily over the background noise. But if you are trying to record quiet situations then the background noise quickly becomes annoying. I have recorded a video of myself talking about this so you can hear what I'm taking about.

I plan on returning this unit and trying something else. For the money it's a great little camcorder but the audio quality just killed it for me. 2 stars. If the audio was better, I would have given it 5 stars.
Mis-information about recording, Due to the lousy details provided in the description, you have to rely on other reviews of the product for more details. Unfortunately, the latest person to review this product is absolutely full of it. You cannot record while this unit is charging. And, the unit only gets 35-55 minutes of recording before dying.
