Doesn't work after only 3 months I bought this thing about 3 months ago and have used it 5 times. It just quit working. New batteries but no use it won't turn on.
Does the job very well I bought this little gem to record ideas and notes while on the go. It is designed specifically for this task and it does it very well. Being designed by Sony never hurts either. I have always admired Sony electronics.Features I found useful1 Pause and resume recording2 Listen to recordings at faster speed than recorded3 I can attach an external mic with 3.5mm jack4 Audio out 3.5 mm jack5 Device lock6 You can use it as a 2GB flash drive if you want or you can use some of it and leave the rest for audio recordings. In other words when attached to my computer via mini USB cable it allows direct access to its memory area by showing up as a disk drive on my PC.Annoyances1 If I forget to lock the device and it is in my pocket any accidental touch or push starts playing back the last recording barely escaped a couple of embarrassing moments2 Battery lasts too longOk. Just kidding. That's actually a plus.I have not tried the bundled voice recognition software thoroughly but I did test it to see if it would take recording directly from the recorder and convert them into text and it does. To get more accurate results you have to train Dragon NaturallySpeaking to your speaking style.Great little recorder and very good at what it is designed for. Good job Sony.
Easy to upload on computer and use The softwear was easy to upload onto my computer windows 7 and tranfer to iTunes and then my iPod.I had to play around with recorder somewhat but it was easy to use.I record phone conversations for work to make sure things are right and this picked up the other voice very well when on speaker phone.Has seperate folders for each subject if ur a student.
Returned item through Amazon refund process simple/quick. I mistakenly ordered the wrong item from Amazon. The refund process was simple and within a few days of returning the item to them I received credit for a full refund on my credit card. Thank you Amazon. Not What It Says It Is It doesn't actually record your voice. I was expecting the little black circle thing to be a microphone or something I was also expecting that it would be somewhat larger sort of like a minidevice that records stuff like a couple statements. It does not convert to WAV and it's really a flash drive. Literally it came in a box that said USB Flash Drive. It looks really cheap too if the packaging is any example. Don't buy. It doesn't actually record anything.

for my husband My husband needed the recorder for his voice over work and he really likes it.
know what features you need I returned this item because it is difficult to use. Fast forward and rewind during playback only work in 30 second increments. Presumably one could do more with the bundled software but it did not install correctly on my Windows platform. I could not read the files over USB with my Macintosh. I managed to get the files off the device but could not find software to convert the format SP to something more useful to me such as AIFF or WAV. The Voice Activated recording feature does not have a sensitivity adjustment so the device records constantly if ambient noises are present.

Works well but it's not simple to use. This device will work fine for someone who is accustomed to tagging and working with raw sound files. The windows software works but it is very nofrills and you have to do your own tagging downsampling etc.For those people who don't know what 'tags' are and are not comfortable with doing file conversions and that sort of thing this device may not be your best choice. For those people I would recommend a cheaper recorder to avoid the whole USB situation and just listen to everything on the device with headphones Or if you want to get the tracks on your computer maybe find a recorder that comes with better software if such a thing exists.Here's my storyI purchased this recorder from my college's bookstore because out of the 2 models offered this was the one with a USB connection so I can get the tracks onto my computer where I can burn cd's for people or transfer them to my iPod or whatever I want to do.Well I *can* do those things but it's not easy. Here's my list of beefs with the device and its software> The raw sound files are a proprietary format so you must use the packaged software if you want to work with them on a PC.> The device does not name the files anything useful such as the date on which they were recorded. The files are named things like ICR027 which makes it difficult to figure out which file is which.> This naming system causes problems when the numbering starts over and you already have a file by the name of the one that you are trying to send to your PC. You can't change the name of the file on the device so you have to change the one on your hard disk fix that in your mp3 library and so on.> The software will transfer the raw file to your computer as a .WAV if you want it to. However you cannot choose a bitrate for this conversion so you get a gigantic file that must be downsampled with a different program.> The firmware on the device itself is rather unfriendly. I still haven't figured out how to pause and resume a recording even though the pause play and record buttons are clearly labeled. Changing settings in the thing is a headache too. This is pretty standard for voice recorders though.So my main complaint here is that the process of transferring a file to my pc getting it in my iTunes library resampling it and tagging it takes too much time and effort for my liking. I can do this but it would have been much nicer if they'd created software that would at least take care of some of these steps for me.3 Stars because it works like it's supposed to but they could have aimed much higher on convenience.
Meh I bought this recorder because it's the cheapest recorder listed on Amazon that allows for SD cards and has a USB port for downloading recordings from the device to my PC. That works fairly well for me but I use the VLC Media Player as my go to media player and it can play just about any file you throw at it.My gripe is with the SD Card Slot. Maybe this is my own inexperience with using SD Cards I've only used them in my cell phones but it seems as if I need to tape the card in place. In my cell phones that make use of SD cards they click in to place and are ejected by pressing on the card.

PERFECT The mic came on time. The box was absolutely clean. No dents. No scratches even. It came in a sturdy box. Nicely packaged.The contents were perfect. Brand new. Nicely done. I was nervous about purchasing this online because it IS more expensive than say an iphone case. But I'm very impressed.

Average I loved Audio Technica's Headphones that is why I gave this mic a try. If you are too close to the microphone your voice will not be clear. Otherwise I liked it.
just got it It was dellieverd today on time came nicely packed with no problems. I have not used it yet as I am awaiting some additional items ordered from Amazon. I have over 30 years in radio and would really like an EV at 20 but cost got in the way. After reading reviews checking many other posibilities this seemed to be the best deal. I will be useing it to do digital audio production for commercial use in my home studio. After 3/10/12 check out my website at [] and you can hear how well it works. No volume control on AT2020 USB I ordered Amazon this microphone and returned. The reson for return is that AT2020 USB has no volume control knob. Thus this microphone is excessively sensitive and easily saturates. I have found several reviewers complained this mocrophone picks up unwanted sounds and distorts the sound when you speak a little louder. This microphone has good sound quality but is not usable to me.After searched on Amazon and other sites I found Yeti from Blue and GTrack from Samson have volume control. Most USB microphones including more expensive models do not have volume control. I ended up with purchasing CEntrance MicPort Pro and using existing microphones.
Great mic This was used on a Windows 7 machine plug and play! We used it for a recorded web conference. As stated this microphone does not pick up noises from the sides or any of the ambient room noises. Used with the spider mount it also did not pick up noise that you get by passing the microphone from person to person.
Love this mic! I've worked with the AT2020 mic for over a year now and I love it. It sounds great and it's so easy to use just plug in the USB. I was afraid I would have problems using it with Vista but it worked fine. Ok so this mic is not a top of the line microphone and this wouldn't work as well as other mics for professional musicians and the like. As is true most mics you will probably want to do some postproduction work. But if you are podcasting doing audio for elearning recording basic voice talent etc. I challenge you to find a better mic in this price range. I did buy a spider mount to go with it so keep that in mind reading this review.
Great Quality for the Price I do some light commentary on gaming videos used to use my Sound Arena Blaster mic. Had HD recordings quality gameplay but sort of muddled mic quality. Decided to get a real standalone mic. This has worked perfectly ordered it with the stand shockmount and popfilter. Great investment.It's nicely built feels pretty sturdy and the cable is a fine length.
Recorded Song Incredible Quality I've been recording several songs with the microphone and I am extremely pleased with the results so far. The recording quality for singing is crisp and clear. Getting the settings right can be a little tricky but it is not the fault of the microphone as it really is a fantastic product. I am using it with audacity and so far so good. The fact that it is a USB device is so incredibly useful. A mike for all seasons I've been around broadcasting for decades and so have used many of the standard microphones in the industry the Electrovoice RE20's Sure models etc.The AT 2020 USB is the very first professional grade microphone I've ever actually owned and it was well worth the wait.My first real use of it involved interviewing and recording a family member in a bedroom with no acoustic treatment at all other than a carpet on the floor and a heavy bedspread next to the recording studio.Be aware however if you are recording two people using just the one AT 2020 USB pointed at just one subject only that one subject will be on mike. If you don't care about the interviewer being on mike and will settle only for room noise pickup of the interviewer it works great. This is a cardiod condenser microphone after all where the pickup pattern is one side only. With that hot side still pointed about 18 inches or more away from the subject the AT 2020 USB still did a superb job of picking up the voice even at that distance.Lesson learned use two AT 2020 USB's next time to pick up both sides of the conversation on mike or place both voices on the same side of the mike!As others have reported the default mike stand that comes with the AT 2020 USB is nearly worthless. It makes the mike extremely tippy and is useless if you want to add a shock mount and/or a pop filter. You may also be fooled into thinking in looking at the extremely small thread mount that your microphone won't fit on a standard size mike boom floor stand or desk stand.
