RCA RP5120 Recording Digital Recorder Don't Buy This Product!

  • 104 hour record time - 256MB
  • External microphone jack
  • Editing Functions, Automatic Voice-Activated Record (AVR), and Variable Speed Playback
  • Digital Voice Recorder with USB

  • Worthless software Might be a nice recorder but how would I know? The Digital Voice Manager software won't work on Mac OSX. Other reviews in other forums say the DVM software is pretty awful as is. SOunds ike I borrowed the wrong recorder. Glad I didn't buy it.
Good Sound Poor PC Software The sound quality is not too bad for the price of this thing but the software to download the files to your PC is junk. I also own an RCA RP5030 which this was meant to replace. Alas this one is not as easy to use. The RP5030 saved in MP3 format while this one saves in something that can ONLY be read by using the included software. And that software is not upgradable nor available for the Mac or Linux. The only reason for the 2 stars is the mic quality which isn't too bad. Otherwise 0.
Don't Buy This Product! I didn't use the recorder much when I first bought it it was for a speech class requirement. After a year or two I decided I was going to start using it to record meetings so that when I write the minutes I'll have the meeting to refer to. I upload the recordings on my computer no problem and then listen that way so I don't run down the batteries on the recorder. For several months this worked fine then every now and then one of my recordings would not be able to play on the computer so I would listen to it from the recorder. I went online and found a site that said to reformat the recorder so I did that it worked okay for a while then started doing the same thing. Today it's different I have 2 recordings that I need to transcribe they do not show up when I look for them on the recorder however they do show up when I use the USB cord on the computer. One of the recordings I was able to convert and save to my computer the other is corrupt so not only can I save it to my computer I can't even find it to listen to it on the recorder it's totally useless!! Terrible cheap machine.
Do not recommend I don't normally write reviews of products but this recorder has driven me nuts. Very poor battery life. Most of the time I can not download files to my computer or they will not play through RCA's Digital Voice Manager. I've reformatted it several times and it will work fine for one use and then go out again. Do yourself a favor and buy something else.
Worthless Junk I'd give it less than 1 star if I could. It has some nice features and it is inexpensive however its primary function making recordings it does not do well. The literature boasts 104 hour recording capacity but it doesn't mention that if you try to make a 1.5 hour recording or longer it fails and you get an unreadable file. It wasn't until this happened to me and I started trying to retrieve the file that I found that this is a common occurrence for this machine. The value of the recorder is not in the hardware but rather in the irreplaceable recordings it makes. RCA is aware that they're selling junk and continues to do so.The .VOC file type and inconvenient proprietary software I could deal with the file corruption and loss of important recordings is inexcusable however. I will not use the recorder again.
Great little recorder for the price I've had this unit for awhile and even though this is my first digital recorder I like it. It holds 18 hrs of audio. You can download to your pc and convert to a .wav which I import to itunes and listen to class notes on my ipod. Even though I could listen or talk through a headset I like a continuous reading on my ipod.Battery life is really good two AAA's. The transfer and conversion process could be better. I can transfer entire folders but I can only convert one file at a time. My notes are short and I have a bunch. A bit of a pain but quick.Audio quality is good enough and I'm sure the fast forward and things like that could be better but for the price and a basic unit that works I like it.
A 4Star Recorder suddenly becomes 1Star The recorder has a lot of nice features and is simple to use. I like the price and the fact that it can be connected to the computer the most important aspect to me.However transferring files eventually started to fail for me producing Bad File Format errors preventing me from listening to the recorded files or ever being able to transfer them again. Customer support indicated that I must reformat the recorder thus losing the files although I could sometimes continue to listen to the recordings on the recorder once the errors began they continued to get worse making transferring the files impossible. Also battery life proved short. I tried many great brands. After several recordings the battery meter would indicate the batteries were nearly exhausted. This was pretty much consistent. When the recorder works I like the ease of use. I like the folders. And the sound isn't all that bad even in an auditorium setting. Not great either since voices often sound a bit muffled at times while environmental sounds seemed somewhat magnified.Unfortunately dependability is the issue. The recordings become more valuable than the recorder and if you cannot access them or transfer them to a computer then you are doomed to listen to them on the recorder if that hasn't failed either. I have gone through a couple of these and so have my colleagues.
Works great! This recorder works great! Hooks up seamlessly to my computer includes the Setup.exe program for Windows and I can record and review with ease.

DIGITAL LOGGERS PERSONAL LOGGER Recorder Software No Support

DIGITAL LOGGERS PERSONAL-LOGGER Call Recorder/Software plugs into MIC
DIGITAL LOGGERS PERSONAL-LOGGER Call Recorder/Software plugs into MIC Read more...

  • Record from phone lines, voice mail systems, handsets, radios and microphones. Connect to an outside line and all extensions are recorded.
  • Audio recordings are perfect. Multiple copies of recordings can be made without degradation. Record to a hard drive or network server for reliable storage.
  • Capture Windows screens with order information, emails, etc. Save, organize, and email them with your call recordings.
  • Like to know who's calling? Display the name and address of the caller with Caller-ID and call tracing. Sort instantly by caller-ID or number dialed.
  • Voice activation keeps all your calls organized in time-stamped directories.

  • Perfect for small offices You could spend $100k for recording and archiving or you can buy a few of these. Very simple to hook up takes a little 'tweaking' of your computers microphone levels to get the right sound but an excellent option for small offices.
No Support When I go the product it did not work properly. After a few hours of trying to see where the problem was I found the volume control switch would only make proper contact when the button was held or taped down. As long as it was held down the unit operated properly. I have contacted Digital Loggers twice by email asking if there was another solution or fix to the problem I have yet to hear back. I also told Amazon about the problem and have not heard back. If you need support for this product it has been my experience you are not going to get it.
Simply Amazing Happy with my recent purchase I participate in plenty of technical conference call where attention to details are crucial and with this recorder it allows me to instant replay while recording and include subject/notes of each call. This recording device is computer/software base and doesn't allow you to hook it up to an actual recorder however it makes up with features that can't be found on the market there even a function where you can you send in your recording and have it transcribe for you. The sound quality is clear and there is a slider on the device that allows you to adjust the record volume to amplify/filter out the white noise for clearer quality. Installation of the device couldn't be easier just hook the device to your computer install the software and set the default mic input to inline under the windows sound settings and you're set. I would definitely recommend this product for someone that doesn't mind using a software base recorder.
Excellent tool I have used this product for several years it's invaluable! I record all important phone calls IRS. Check the laws in your state before using Most States allow recording with only one persons you consent required.
Does the job! I use this at work to record sales presentations. I plugged it into a phone jack near my computer separate from my phones. It took a little effort to adjust the two volumes so that it would recognize a call and record it. I set it for vox so that I don't have to remember to switch it on. It records all my calls to my computer's hard drive. I can play them back and make notes in the included software so that I can find the call later. It also reads caller ID. Sound quality is very good. I had one question about caller ID. Called customer support and got an answer immediately. All in all it's a very good tool.

  • 16 hours recording time
  • PC compatible through direct USB PC link
  • Fast/slow playback with jog-dial navigation
  • 25 hours of recording/play on 2 AAA batteries (included)
  • Three recording modes with four folders

  • Olympus VN960PC wouldn't be in school without it! Unlike a number of reviewers I have not encountered any of the issues described and I have two of these. The software and hardware work fine for me now over a couple of years on my clunky Windows XP system. After returning to school to finish a degree I saw a guy in class using a VN240PC. Bought it loved it. Later I found with multiple classes I really wanted longer recording times in higher quality. Next bought a VN960PC and at highest setting get nearly 6 hours and that covers my heavy class days. I might mention very good battery life 20 hours give or take per two AAA batteries. Installing the software was no problem and my unit or should I say both units never had an issue plugging and playing. Plug it in and it automatically pulls up the app. Again unlike reported I can download 1 ½ hour class recording in about two minutes. As far as usability I found the unit and the software of no great challenge to use and quickly got use to them after playing with them for a day or so. I'm currently ordering a second VN960PC as a back for classes and interviews. PS check website for application upgrades. Again upgrades went without a hitch. Good units good quality usable well made well designed very handy. As a computer guy anthropologist and usability tester I'm usually very critical on my assessment of software and equipment. I was impressed and still am with these units.
Would give 5 stars if not for software trouble This recorder works well as a stand alone recorder and nothing else. You CANNOT transfer to a PC so if you're like me and have filled up your device just put it in a drawer and forget about it and buy a SONY or any other brand that knows anything about USB transfers.
Clear and concise I use the Olympus to tape a class and to tape a radio broadcast from the sound booth. In both cases this little gizmo picks up every sound in the room. On playback every word is clear and concise. I have great sound quality. I'm not a gadget person but this one is very easy to use. It's small enough to fit in any purse or pocket and it's very sturdy and resilient. In other words it was worth every dime I paid for it and then some.
Won't work with Windows Vista This was a marvelous voice recorder until I changed from XP to Vista. The patches issued by Olympus won't work as you can read on endless webforums. So think twice before you buy it if you are a Vista user.
Excellent for the student I bought this recorder a couple of years ago and it has held up great!!! The PC connect allows me to download to my PC and add to my itunes to listen on my ipod. The download is so easy simply plug in using enclosed USB cable and program automatically opens then choose download option. I upload lectures to the internet using a free file storage site and share with classmatesI have gotten so many positive reviews on the quality. Some classmates who have recorders actually prefer to download mine! The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that it records in WAV format so I had to get free converting software to convert to MP3. I also wish that the low battery warning gave more advance notice. Another thing to keep in mind is that the software provided is easy to use but does not allow for editing of recordings which has not been a necessity of mine anyway My lectures are about an hour in length and I did miss the last 10 minutes of one lecture. I wouldn't record more than an hour at a time to make the files more manageable in size. Battery life is actually pretty good. I now change my batteries every 3 weeks and have not missed any lectures since. I leave my recorder at the front of the class near the professor and I get fantastic quality. I was recording from the back of the class and got excellent quality also.
Almost perfect This is a great performer which I use for music rehearsals mostly. I find the quality is much better than trying to use my iPhone's voice recorder feature. Mind you this is just a little monophonic recorder. If you want to make seriousquality stereo digital audio recordings there are product out there but you are going to pay considerably more.My only beef is this You can download your recordings to your computer that's fine. BUT I really wish you could upload recorded sound TO the recorder. The only way to input sound is through a microphone.I still give it a solid 4 stars for a very good product which does what it's designed to do very well and it's lightweight and reasonably priced.
Great Product ok software Great voice detection capacity and battery life. The software is a little difficult to work with but it works. Overall I would recommend this product.
not user friendly I bought this a while ago and really just began to use it recently. I had to call customer service because I was unable to get the basic folder function on the recorder to work. After some trouble shooting the rep while on the phone with me was able to get the recorder to move from file to file.I tried to record today in long play mode and only got about two minutes worth. I press the folder button and it will only display folder A.There's something wrong with this. The instructions are confusing and should be more simple. Pressing the folder button does not get into any other folders.I am very unhappy with this product it doesn't work and I bought all the accessories. I will admit that using it to record a telephone conversation was handy one time.
hearing the voices This is the recorder I use for my EVP's. It captures everything and is easy to use.
A great recorder. I bought this recorder a few years ago. It has been a reliable recorder. Great to have a recorder on hand. You never know when you might need it. Once I used it to record a noise my dryer was making as it never seemed to make the sound once the apartment maintenance man was around.

Zoom H2 Portable Stereo Recorder Far too weak

Zoom H2 Handy Portable Stereo Recorder
Zoom H2 Handy Portable Stereo Recorder Read more...

  • W-XY mic patterns with 4 mic capsules and signal processing allows Front 90 cardioid, Rear 120 cardioid and 360 polar patterns
  • Time Stamp and Track Marker functions in Broadcast WAV Format (BWF)
  • Records in WAV 96kHz/48kHz/44.1kHz at 16-bit or 24-bit, MP3 to 320kbps and Variable Bit Rate (VBR) data formats
  • Built-in USB 2.0 port for data storage
  • Finally record 360 sound as 2ch data or 4ch data simultaneously

  • Nice quality too hard to convert I may be a goofus but I tried this on a live recording and it did very well. However the micromini jacks which tend to promote noise and the fact that you just can't hit replay and listen you need other software not mentioned prior to sale gives this a lower mark than it could have. It is simply a twin condenser mic combo that records digitally to a format not recognized by computers.
Needs improvement Ive own the zoom H2 for quite sometime and stopped using this recorder because of 2 things. Battery life and the display. This consumes lotsa juice and I don't like to be changing batteries all the time. Also the screen display is very small. It does record really well but these two things really stand in my way. I have the Olympus Ls 11 and I'm very satisfied. This is just my opinion and I'm sure people are very happy with the Zoom H2. There's another model the Zoom H2n. I'm planning on getting it cause I do love the surround sound and the H2n has five mikes. When I get it I will write more on that.
Very Handy!! I am a Saxophonist on GigMasters.comwww.gigmasters.com/saxophone/ChrisKnightAnd I needed something to record and download my music samples onto my website. The Portable recorder did just that!!! Very easy to use! Will even convert .wav files to .mp3 in a matter of minutes. The only down fall is I wish it recorded oneself while a music player was connected directly into it. The portable microphone becomes disconnected once something is connected into the recorder. It will however record the music that is coming into it. Another down fall is that the display screen is too small in my opinion.
Good for certain projects abysmal for others the Zoom H2 is a decent but overpriced recorder I bought the Zoom H2 recorder for my roommate as we both want to make indie films and we'd heard it was a good starter soundrecorder for dialog in lowbudget productions when connected to a decent mic. We had both used one for classes at our college. It's good mainly for dialog and for some minor soundeffects work but it's not the greatest. The $150+ price is a bit outlandish considering he had an MP3 player with a builtin mic that produced sound equally as good and clear that cost far less. After tinkering with it for a few weeks I've come to the conclusion that while it is a decent starting recorder and it could be useful it's about 2x more expensive than it should be.The builtin mic is surprisingly good and when you put the windsleeve on it records sound quite nicely. We didn't even use an external mic a lot of the time. But the price is where this product loses a point. Just a bit too expensive for what it does.
The power pack is not for the UK I ordered this In a matter of urgency .After looking at the Mains ac supply its not for the UK I don't want to send it back as I am on location. As for the MIC 4 stars.
Far too weak If you want to record blaring live music no problem. If you want to record unamplified people talking in anything but a small room this is a lousy choice. Even set at maximum volume and sensitivity you'll barely be able to understand half of what you recorded. It drains batteries quickly and it's badly overpriced. Thumbs way down.
Portable and User Friendly I am a classroom music teacher and am thrilled with the qualiy of recording and how easy the Zoom H2 is to use. No more setting up a big recording system with microphones on stands. I was suprised how well the Zoom picks up in any environment and adjusts to what size group I am recording. I can now record my small group ensembles as well as my choir of 50 students with ease and hear the playback immediately through my classroom speakers.
Zoom H2 portable recorder The Zoom H2 recorder is not user friendly and you cannot hear the recording right after you record not unless you connect it to speakers or earphones. It's not so portable if you can't listen to your playback without hooking it to something. This is not the product I thought it was. The recordings are very clear and the surround sound works great. The instruction book does not give you clear instructions on how to work it. It takes allot of time to figure things out and I still do not know how to make it function properly. I bought one for my husband and myself and we both feel the same way. When I read all the reviews prior to buying they rated this product 4.5.The only thing I agree with is the surround sound and clear recordings. I hope in the future Zoom Corporation develops a better recorder that is not make in CHINA of cheap plastic. I will give it another couple of months to figure it out.
Good features but some flaws The Zoom H2 has a lot of features and is a great product for musicians who are recording live events. I've used it for micing musical instruments and concerts and it gives good results on par with similar products. When my attempts to record birds and animals here in the rainforest gave disappointing results. At the moment it's connected to my computer as a microphone for Skype.ProsFour internal condenser mics can record 2 or 4 channels directly to an SD cardExternal mic and line inputUSB connector for transferring files or for direct recording to computerA lot of features Tripod mount metronome tuner compressor headphone jack etcConsAs with many inexpensive recorders Line Input is a joke. You'll need to use an attenuator to get the levels correct.Internal noise is a problem if you're trying to record faint sounds at a distance wildlife birds etc.
Does the job quite well actually. Just spent a day with this unit. First the audio quality is excellent. Nice features. The included accesories are great. The interface is a little quirky but I got use to it after a while. The case is of cheap plastic but that doesn't bother me. There is a silicone case I may purchase at some point. What does concern me is the SD card door. The design is poor. It will break in due time. Also the unit's USB feels like 1.0. Very slow file transfers to my MacBook Pro. Solution? Take out the SD card and pop it right into my Mac. Can't comment on battery life yet. Using DuraCell Alkaline. I got the unit to record audio for videos I shoot. The audio the unit records is superb. I might upgrade to the H2N later this summer but for now this little guy rocks.

    • Not Easy to Use Difficult to See. On paper this device seems great. I had a simple use of random dictation while driving my car. Unfortunately the software is difficult to use and the screen fonts are impossibly tiny. I am busy. Just give me a simple interface and I am happy. I'll be looking at the Olympus models.
Fantastic little gadget a must have! The 64mg RCA recorder is more than enough for my classes and meetings. The USB interface is nice because it is plug and play.
Superb Product Easy to use. Works great for medical dictation. Price is GREAT!!! File transfers are easy with no software to load. You can use hook this to any computer with a USB port and the computer see it as an additional drive.
Many featured recorder but This recorder has many features of more advanced models you can play faster or slower than normal speed you can append to an existing message you can adjust the mic. sensitivity you can lock the unit to prevent it from accidentally turning on you can play MP3sI'm not listing them all. A feature that Olympus models don't seem to have is that it functions as a thumb drive as well you can store any files you want on it! You don't need batteries installed to down or up load files. The voice quality is good for the price. However SAVE YOUR RECEIPT. My unit as much as I loved it died after 6 weeks of use. You have a 1 year warranty but you have to have the receipt to get a replacement. I also did not like that it was only 64MB.
QUICK CLEAN EASY Very easy to use and the sound quality is superb!Having it record directly into mp3 format is great.Just plug in the usb cable and your computer sees the device as a temp storage device.Just drag/drop delete as needed. You can also use it as a portable storage device holding other files besides audio.Having built in jacks for using headphones or an external mic is nice. The built in speaker plays recorded audio loud enough to be useful. unlike some other recorders where you need to be in a quite room to hear anythingmisc. Has small clip to hookup a strap.USB port has a rubber cover to protect from dirt and dust. Can eaisly be operated with one hand.Has keylock feature so it can just be thrown in a bag without fear of batteries going dead from turning on/off.Only con is the screen is not backlit to use device in lowlight conditions.

Great investment for professionals I've been a professional writer for 20 years and this is one of the best tools I've ever had in my line of work. I've used it for both inperson and telephone interviews and it's worked perfectly every time. The sound quality the mic sensitivity the huge memory the ease of use the battery life the small size everything about it is fantastic. For phone interviews I just put the phone on speaker and set the recorder next to it. A piece of cake! No more clunky tape recorders or phone adapters! Plus after you copy the file to your hard drive you can use audio software to play it at halfspeed for transcribing.
I've enjoyed mine over a year now. Got mine over a year ago and used it HEAVY for the first 3 months. Dont use it nearly as much any more but still find it awesome and easy to use. Record and drop it on your harddrive to burn to CD for lasting copies. I have never had a good recorder before so this one sets the standard for me.
Unreliable My 2 complaints make me loath to recommend this unit to anyone for field work.First the sound quality is not great in a meeting setting. You will barley pick up parts of the discussion you would easily hear in the room even with the unit pointing directly at the speaker if he is a couple of yards away. But even if it worked fine in meetings the switches on the side are flimsy. One is for Hold and the other switches the unit between voice and music. These switches are plastic and sometimes make contact when you do not intend them to. This can stop your recording. It can also wake your unit when it is sitting in your bag or pocket causing the batteries to drain.
Great for a student I would recommend anyone going to school have one of these. I bought this for my wife 3 years ago and have had no problems. It holds hours of lectures and is easy to operate. Battery lasts a good amount of time and batteries are easy to find and cheap to replace. My wife is not the easiest on electronics and it has held up to her abuse just fine.
It's almost like throwing a third ear out into the audience for feedback This is an amazing machine. I've had mine for around a year and as a musician I find it priceless. During sets I simply switch it on throw it in my cord bag which is out in the audience and then switch it off at the end of the set. When I get home I very easily and quickly download the contents onto my computer. This thing's been great for me it's almost like throwing a third ear out into the audience as far as performance feedback goes great flat response from the builtin mics.By the way in case you're wondering it takes me less than twenty minutes to download and burn a CD once I connect it to my Mac I then use the CD to review and practice against while driving in my car throughout the week.
Decent Sound Pathetic Construction I've had this product for a few years. The sound quality is decent and it does what its supposed to however its construction is pathetic. I had to taped the battery cover so I wouldn't loose it. I wouldn't recommend using it to listen to audio especially through its built in speakers because it will drain the battery very quickly. One more issue is its battery life. I take out the batter after every use or the batter would be dead if I wanted to use it the next time and this seam to happen even if I separate the body from the battery cap.
Nice Little Digital Voice Recorder I must admit I was a littlt skeptical about buying a digital voice recorder so I did some online research and came across the Olympus WS32OM 1 GB Digital Voice Recorder and Music Player. It took a little while to master the controls but once I did I started to use this Digital Voice Recorder often. It also transfers sound files easily onto my computer and laptop with its convenient break a way USB adapter. The sound quality is great too.
My Favorite Accessory My WS320M is absolutely wonderful. I carry it with me all the time. I recently went back to college after several years and this voice recorder is great for recording lectures. Since this recorder has several folders I can use a different one for each of my classes.I love the storage capacity 1 GB and am also pleased that it is black since most of my other accessories are as well iPod cell phone & such. It is also less conspicuous when you are recording other things as well i.e. general conversations or concerts.I highly recommend the WS320M. I purchased the Olympus CS112 carrying case to go along with the recorder. Perfect fit.
Poor Support I bought an Olympus W10 a few years ago. Not a bad device but when I tried to install software on my new Vista laptop Olympus told me Too bad. Your device is just outdated. And No we don't have any plans of supporting your device on Windows Vista. I think that says it all. Unless you want to buy one of these every few years.

Sony ICD PX820 Digital Voice Recorder Washed on cold/cold - still works!

    • Ready for podcast - records in MP3 format, no conversion necessary
    • Stereo recording with optional microphone
    • 535 hours2 of recording time (LP mode)
    • Noise Cut Function
    • 2 GB Flash Memory

    • Keep it simple stupid. I lost mine only a few weeks after it arrived but I wish I could find it again. It was easy to use small enough to fit in my pocket and gave me crystal clear recordings every time. Perfect for note taking and paranormal investigations.
Great for learning music!. My application for the recorder is to help me to transcribe and learn new songs to play on my clarinet. I spent some time researching different models of digital voice recorders learning about their features and capabilities and the PX820 turned out to be the only one which has all the features I need It records in MP3 format and has a USB port so I can download and upload music directly to and from my computer. I can also connect it directly to most any audio source such as a cassette player or IPOD or CD player using a mini plug cable to record music. Two important features which I found together only on the Sony are AB Repeat which allows the user to easily select any portion of a song to repeat continuously and the Digital Pitch Control which allows one to slow down the music to as much as 1/2 speed while preserving the original pitch. These two features alone make the PX820 an invaluable tool for learning a song.
Great Recorder Great for students or journalist who need to the point notes. Never miss a word and get that statement correct.
Great device for tech challenged Bought this for someone who doesn't deal with technology. They figured out how to record with it without issue. Since it stores the audio as MP3 the format is nearly universally understood by electronic devices. This recorder shows up as a thumb drive when you plug it into a computer so transferring the MP3 files off is just like a thumb drive. Almost any audio player should be able to use the files then.Construction feels solid device is small and convenient size. Not a whole lot of features but this is way better than the old micro cassette recorders and just about as simple.
Works like it should I use this for work and it is exactly what I wanted. It has built in noise reduction and it transfers very easily to a pc. If you have to delete a section while recording that is easy also.
Display is illegible After light use for 5 months the display is essentially unreadable Sure. it records but it is nearly impossible to track files or change settings when only 30% of the screen has legible characters at any time. We purchased Sony recorders where I work prior to this one so I thought it was a safe buy for our office. Not so. Extremely disappointed.
Washed on cold/cold still works! I read a review where the owner stated he had high humidity problems due to keeping his batteries refrigerated. I put my PX820 through and entire wash cycle by accident and it still worksafter taking the batteries out and letting it dry for a couple of days. The buttons all seem to still function so far as I've been able to tell. Also all the files I had recorded stayed intact. I was amazed and impressed. One thing about the product though. I bought mine at a wellknown and very large retail store that some call Wally World and it was only $60. Just thought I'd mention that.
it is a good item the Sony ICDPX820 Digital Voice Recorder is very good. there are a lot of functions with it. and the voice it record is very clear. i like it.
Superb for recording galaxy echo transponder signals Purchased this on planet A3 to replace my IPX4 receiver that fried during suborbital entry. The circuitry is late 20th century yet adaptable using standard switchover matrices. On a trial run through Vortex B it was able to detect and record galaxy echo transponder signals in the 5.6 to 11.3 range using subspectrum array boosters. This range is acceptable for safe triangulation vectoring but falls well below what is required for tandems of two or greater. For solo vectoring it is fine and reliable enough to serve as an adequate bandaid until I reach GrommetFIVE.
Fragile I bought this recorder 5 months ago and to record my lectures. I store my batteries in refrigerator for longer half life. Before putting in recorder I let batteries get up to room temperature. The problem is sometimes there's a little condensation on batteries. I tried wiping them off but may have been a small amount of moisture. My [Sony PX820] recorder had problems ever since. First rewind button would stop working sporadically. Now the play stop rewind buttons don't respond. All I can do is fast forward and turn on/off. Needless to say this recorder is not durable at all and must be kept away from any moisture. If you live hot humid place like I do keep in zip lock bag or protective case. I know it sounds like it's my own fault but believe me it's not.

I'm impressed by the photo quality he figured out the interface almost immediately and the price is more than right. I wonder about its durability but so far it's performed like a champ.
Great buy.focusing is difficult This is a great buy for small projects and such. the only problem i have is that i saw the pic of the wine colored one and fell in love with the color and got a blue one in the mail! i was a little dissapointed that nowhere on the page does it say anything about a blue one or even other color options so i assumed we were getting the wine one! but other than that it is hard to get a clear focused shot after zooming in. if you stand far away and walk towards the object it is ok but standing in one spot and using the zoom is not so great.
Video Okay Photos Not So Great I bought this camera last summer not from Amazon. It takes pretty good video the zoom is fair. But the photos are a disappointment. If you use any zoom at all the photos turn out grainy. I experimented extensively with the settings and there was no improvement. The unit itself is pretty cool otherwise. The voice recorder works fine. I haven't downloaded any music to it so I can't speak to using it as an mp3 player. The ebook reader works but it is limited in space. I downloaded a public domain book just to see what it would look like and could only get a portion of the book onto the unit. I have the 1 gig card that came with the unit so maybe a bigger card might be the answer.I take the camera with me when I go places because of the video and the voice recorder. I've gotten good video outdoors and indoors if there's enough light. If you don't mind the problem concerning grainy photos when you use the zoom the unit is good though I think a little pricey.

Not compatible with Windows 7 This device is incompatible with Windows 7. Sony's lack of concern is disturbing.
Good little recorder over all Very easy to use and long battery life though the sound quality is pretty lame when recording in a teaching environment but gets the job done.
digital recorder LOVE it. Works and sounds great easy to use and to upload to my computer and holds hours of audio.
Not Compatible With 64bit WIN 7 I've been using my ICDP320 for over 6 years on Win XP & Vista 32bit computers with free Sony software. Great also for recording conference calls etc. with a 3rd party direct hookup to the phone. Great for recording meetings where you have to write minutes later on. I would download all the foregoing to my computer to burn CDs edit etc. Make sure you have fresh batteries in the recorder before starting a long recording session. But recently I had to replace one of my laptops and the new one has 64 bit Windows 7. When I loaded the Sony program for the ICDP320 it wouldn't recognize the recorder.
Excellent transaction Having owned this model previously I was looking for a replacemnt for my lost recorder. Within an hour of my purchase I found my first recorder. It is the easiest recorder I have ever used and the lock feature keeps me from accidentally recording over any previous work not to mention the method by which it files. I have confidence in Sony products and buying the same model keeps all my transcribing software and equipment operational. The digital sound quality is excellent. Once while conducting an interview with someone the distance between the recorder and the person speaking was substantial but you would not have known as the recording sounded as if the person was mikedup. The second recorder in case you're wondering is being used by my office staff.
Helped in my Divorce This is a totally different kind of review but I think it's necessary. I bought it to protect my conversation/me against BS accusations in a divorce. It was so SWEEEET to have myself vindicated each time I was accused of being ugly during a conversation on the phone or in person. I LOVED the fact that the internal Mic faces towards the top. I could wear it in a shirt pocket and it caught the conversation from across the table still. For this pure reason alone it was worth every cent I paid. It was nice to have technology on my side for something like this and to see the face of my ex when the recording was played.
Another Sony let down If you have windows vista don't bother with this device. It will not operate. Once again Sony has given me yet another reason to stop buying Sony.To get the information off the device you are required to have windows xp. They will not update a driver to accomodate a vista computer connection. All because they have their own format on this thing.
Vista Users! DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL This recorder is a neat little package and so much so that I purchased additional units in the event my original broke down I use it for work. I still think that for the money it is one of the better models that Sony made yes past tense. Unfortunately since they no longer make them neither do they provide very good support for this model which you can discover simply by doing a search using such text as my ICDP320 won't work with Windows Vista. Sony does provide a driver that is supposedly an update which serves to facilitate compatibility with Vista but you will find if you did that search that the driver doesn't work and provides no more than lip service which in this case could be an acronym for Sony tech support in regard to this product. Eventually working my way up to a senior tech within Sony's product support system he confided to me that until the creator's of Windows Vista yes them reach some sort of an agreement with Sony no working driver including the one that they say is a working driver to enable Vista users to continue to enjoy their ICDP320 will be forthcoming. So that leaves me with several wasted 82 MB redownloads on more than one occasion thinking I would soon have the magic driver but didn't get it tech conversation time wasted as well as occasional sparks of hope that maybe they had resolved the driver issue and had not and yet another attempt at downloading that magical driver that will work just as they say it will. You can buy an updated version of this sweet little recorder with odd looking little barrel microphones attached at the top for about three hundred bucks or buy the UX versions which have little if any actual volume advantage and in fact require a set of headphones if you want to play back whatever you record and actually be able to hear it but still as those of us who really like this recorder the ICDP320 and think that Sony should support their product but don't it's such a nice recorder that I still dream that someday they will come up with a working driver. Planned obsolescence? I'm not sure but I know that for those of us who have this useless recorder paired with Vista life doesn't get any better nor does it promise to anytime soon.
Let Down by this recorder I boought this recorder to record sermons for my church email outreach ministry. The first 7 times I used it the file transfer went smoothly the sound quality could use some work but I was still able to use it. As soon as I got comfortable enough to quit taking notes I had major trouble with the fle transfer not working. I tried all the help suggestions but it still does'nt communicate. I'll still trying to use it. But my advice is to keep taking notes just in case. I'm shopping for another recorder.

    • frustration This worked according to expectations for 4 months. The feature I most liked was that fastforwarding accelerated the longer the button was held which is handy if you bump the button and change tracks accidentally which happened a lot. But after 4 months it started blacking out even though it had a decent amount of battery left. Within a couple weeks it completely froze and now is a useless ump of plastic. I would not buy again.
Nice while it lasted I bought this MP3 player in February of 2011. It just died on me April 13 2012. Not sure what went wrong but there is no way to replace the battery let alone take it apart without damaging the face of the device. It was good while it lasted. Played FLAC and MP3 as well as converted audio files it couldn't play. The set up was easy and the program listed everything if the music was labeled correctly. The biggest problems were battery life about 5 hours charging time took as long as the battery lasted the headphones were cheap the clip on broke in 2 days the transfer time to fill it was around 1 hour and it broke a little after 1 Year of use.
SanDisk Sansa Clip+ 4Gb review an excellent mp3 player. Great for ebooks and music. Have inserted a 16Gb SanDisk micro loaded with music and the player found them straight away. Was able to drag and drop files in both Windows 7 and Linux Mint 12. Plays both mp3 and Ogg Vorbis my formats and sound quality is great for such a tiny low cost player. Purchased this player from Amazon.com in the States arrived at my door in Australia within 4 days excellent service.
Great This product is just what I was looking for.It is small light has a clip built in.No frills basic.I hope sansa never stops making this thing. It has its place in the industry.
Didn't Work Twice! Don't Buy This . . . Bought it. Received it. Loaded it up with songs. Played fine for 5 minutes. Tried to jump around to play specific songs. Locked up and stopped working. Filed return with amazon. Shipped it back. Requested replacement. Received replacement. Loaded it up with songs. Played fine for 5 minutes. Tried to jump around to play specific songs. Locked up and stopped working. Filed refund with amazon. Not requesting replacement.Fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me.Terrible product. Avoid.
Addicted to it! This little gadget revolutionized my world! I am a very active person who LOVES books and this little device allows me to carry on my tasks AND listen to books on tape without interference for long periods of time.
THIS THING 'IS' THE BEST!! 4/13/12 4/13/12 I've went through quite a few mp3 players. This thing plays just about every format you can think of including flac files. It has preset equalizers and a custom equalizer. One of the greatest things is the micro sd card slot. My 8gb micro sd card has well over a 1000 mp3s and it pulls them all up without a problem!! You can also delete tracks you don't want right from the player without having to plug it into the computer. I paid $31.99 for a refurbished one from Outlet Digital. It looks BRAND NEW and shipping was FREE.
Brendabiek I love this little MP3player. The sound is great. The only draw back is that after a few weeks the earbud connector into the player gets loose and I have to really play with it to keep a continuos connection. That I am not happy with. I would have have given it five stars if that had not happened.
Great MP3 player even better than the Philips go gear My wife I have have used the Philips Go Gear MP3 players from amazon for a long time. Recently we went to buy one and they are not listed any longer so we tried this. It is even BETTER than the ones we love from Philips. It has a small clip that my wife can clip to her sports bra which she loves. the tiny display is easy to read unlike most tiny displays and the controls are easy to use. Great sound in a tiny package. The battery is built in but holds a long charge. This is the one to get.
Not to be recommended The players has some plusses nevertheless it has problems with reliability. My first one lasted 89 months and then stopped turning on. Spent several weeks and hours of valuable time troubleshooting to no avail. Finally Sandisk customer service sent me a replacement. Right from the start the replacement would freeze frequently and randomly. I am not very sure by my troubleshooting efforts appeared to suggest that the player could not handle the vibrations caused when running. Anyway I went for a samsung mp3 player. Would not recommend primarily because it lacks reliability.

    • Best ICD I ever used This is the best ICD on the world. It's very powerful and it's microphone is very sensitive. Also the Sony software is controlling every thing and has many powerful controls & options. This Sony ICDMX20 is the best one. It's very small as a pocket size. I am using it for my business meetings and lessons. I am using the Dragon software to convert my talking into written documents in seconds. The Dragon is the powerful recognition software. Also you can use an extra mic and headphones if you want. You should purchase the Sony 3V 1000 ma ACE30A AC power adapter for home use and a AAA rechargeable batteries for your external use. I am using the Sony Memory Stick PRO DUO 4GB to let me able to record more than 340 hours. It's batteries work for about 8 hours working time and this is enough. Finally I recommend this Sony ICDMX20 for you.
Got what was advertised eventually When I received my order the software enclosed was the recorder edition NOT the preferred edition promised in the spec sheet. Since you can get the recorder for about 200.00 elsewhere the selling point for me was the preferred software. After multiple calls all over the world and getting a whole new shipment of exactly the same wrong thing Amazon finally saw the light and through a very convulted process was able to satisfy the order. Basically they refunded me the price of the Dragon 9 preferred software form my ICD order and then I bought the software from another one of their listings.
Dazed and confused frustrated and other things too! I have many of the frustrations that some of the other reviewers have mentioned. I have been a fan of Sony products for many years but this particular product is a frustration to me. I also bought it to go with the Dragon Systems speech recognition software that it came bundle with. The joy stick is a nightmare for me at least. I have trouble getting it to do what I want it to do. The right left up down is fairly easy but in trying to push the button down the machine usually responds with an up execution. I find it overly sensitive. The push to execute feature of the joy stick when I get it right usually takes two or three pushes to actually perform the intended operation.I tried to upgrade using the coupon for the full version of Dragon but they would not accept the code and asked full payment instead. Phooey! Finally I switched to an Intel based Mac two and a half years ago when I changed companies. My biggest hesitation in doing so was that I would have to give up being able to dictate to text unless I ran Windows. When I left my previous company I had to leave the Dragon Software behind. So I bought Parallels installed it. Bought the recorder and software and installed it too. I have more crashes on the Parallels virtual machine than I thought could be possible. What a nightmare. If anyone has any suggestions for me I am all ears otherwise this recorder will end up getting tossed into Lake Washington the next time I go across the floating bridge. Hmmm. Why did I give it two stars? Must be nostalgia and benefit of doubt from all my other many good Sony experiences.
control button directions and Dragon I want to add my experience with some issues that have been mentioned in hopes it will be useful to other potential buyers. 1. I had trouble with the control button at first. But I paid attention to how I pushed it and the result I got and learned pretty quickly how to use it for consistent results. 2. The directions are understandable and similar if not superior to what you get with other electronic products. It is a big sheet of paper but after all there are many features to be covered. 3. The Dragon issue I am writing this in August 2009 the current version of Dragon is 10 and the version that comes with this product is 9. That is why the model number ends in DR9. It took me awhile to figure that out. No matter how great Amazon is about offering a replacement and they are realize that this model comes with Dragon 9.
Naturally Speaking Supported uo to Win 7 The now have drivers for up to Windows 7. I have it running fine. Great product!I would rate it a 4 now.
Disappointed with this product I am disappointed in this product.
Easy to use digital recorder with high quality sound I have used several digital recorders over the last few years. This is by far one of the best in its price range. Sound is excellent however the software that comes with it may or may not be compatablie with Vista or Windows 7. The door that opens to remove the card get loose after a lot of use and there is a tendecy to drain batteries quickly but for high quality sound recording in a small package well worth the money.
Item Not As Described This is a great ICD that does a very accurate job of voice to text translation. However the product does not come with Dragon Naturally Speaking Preferred as described. Instead it comes with a very abbreviated lite version called Naturally Speaking Recorder Edition. You'll have to take advantage of a special offer from Nuance fork over another $30 and reinstall the product to get the benefits of the Preferred edition. If you plan to dictate from a headset or use MS Word you will want to upgrade.
Very good technology! This recorder is highly sensitive to pick up all participants' contribution at meetings.I highly recommend it.
Very disappointed with this device I hate this device for many reasons. You need to be a computer genius to make this work at all. It takes more time to figure it out than it is worth. I have been trying to use it along with the dragon program for months now and I give up. The recorder has one tiny tiny button in the middle that does everything or if you aren't good with it it does nothing you ask it to do. I can not even find out how to turn it off so I have to take the batteries out each time and then reinsert them. I would throw it out the window but am afraid I might hit someone and get sued. The direction sheet is unreaable and measures 3 ft. by 3 ft. as you unfold it and try to use it. I am going to use my daughters cheap one and maybe actually get something accomplished. So upset. I spent over 250.00 and wasted untold hours of my research time.

A helpful tool I found this device to be very helpful when I conducted a series of interviews during a recent trip. I am writing a biography and wanted to get all the words just right. I also took notes but when I began to play back the tapes I realized how much I had missed in notetaking. The device will really boost my accuracy and thoroughness so I am pleased.Donna Meredith author of The Glass Madonna.
Good but not necessary I bought this device and like it. It's easy to use and the speaker is adequate. However if you have a smart phone I have the iPhone you don't need this thing. You can get Dragon on your iPhone now. Also Dragon is coming out with a new edition of the desktop product that can work with your iPhone so this type of recorder is unnecessary. Even if you don't use Dragon your iPhone has voice recording capabilities that make this thing just another piece of hardware to lug around. However if you like a separate recorder it's top notch.
Unacceptable 1. No manual comes with product. You have to download from the internet. The pamphlet that does come with it is in what seems every language. It is written so small it is difficult to see.2. Feels like flimsy plastic.3. Tried several settings. Each results in the same far away in a tin can sound during playback. Both My husband and I could not understand what was being said even when we just said it. I tried recording from several distances and with/without the included microphone. I also went in different rooms.I had planned to get an updated product from the ten or so yr old Olympus I currently have. The Olympus has held up much better.
