Decent product, but only decent, This product was used for a traffic study project, along with the Olympus VN-4100. While the VN-1000 did what I needed it to do, I preferred using the VN-4100 because it was easier to operate and had a larger hard drive (allowing me to record at high quality at all times). As is, the VN-1000, in my opinion, is a quality product, but I give it 3 stars because there are better out there for a few extra dollars.
very portable digital voice recorder, This product seems to be a very effective one, I tried to record my own voice and it captures the sound easily. It is very easy to use, and hopefully this will last. My recorded voice was clear when I tried it I just don't know how good it will be when I try this by far distance, probably I'll try it soon again...
Better off with a rock and chisel, I'm a professional writer. I perform phone interviews on a weekly basis and this little unit has been the bane of my existence since I bought it. No USB port to import files, extremely difficult-to-use controls, confusing file organization, unreliable operation and about 2 hours of recording time that goes by before you know it. A dud all the way around. Mine just broke down after a year of troubled use, and now I'm going to buy a Sony.
Great little recorder, This digital voice recorder is super small with lots of memory. I used it in learning a new language, and it was very easy to record new words and play them back later.
This is a convenient way to record. It has several recording features, and it has different folders in which you can put recordings.
Class recording, I bought this recorder so I could record the professor and play back his lecture during my 2+ hours of commuting each day. I sat in the middle of the room and the recorder worked fine for that task and the play back was clear.
What I ended up using the recorder for more was taking notes on the recorder after lecture, verbally, and then listening to those notes during my commute. Recording yourself is actually difficult, not because of the recorder, but because you feel like a dork recording your self.
I would give the recorder six stars if it could automatically removed all the awkward pauses, ums and other stumbles from my self recordings.
great listener!, This item can record as if it was right by the speaker, even though they'll be 15 feet away at least. It picks up everything that's around. I'm going back to collage. I don't think it'll miss any part of the lecture.
still have it, still use it., I've had this for about 5 years!? It still works although I only use it on occasion. It records a bit of ambient noise, but if you only need to record a conversation or some notes, then it's perfect. Also, I would recommend not storing the batteries in it while not in use, as it drains the batteries. But even if you take the batteries out, and put them back in, whatever you saved is still there. Also, I love the lock button, so you can't accidentally play the tape or stop recording. This was before I owned an ipod, but I still use it.
My brain, I love this thing. I use it for shopping trips. As I think of things I need, I grab it and record the item. Unlike a list, I don't lose or mislay it. Everything works and the features are easy to use, at least the ones I use. I talked my neighbor into getting one, but he's older than I am and keeps forgetting to take it on shopping trips. No gadget is fool-proof.
Nicely made and survives being dropped (so far). Small enough to tuck into the watch pocket in my pants.
Excellent value, I bought this for my daughter for school. It works great and was a great price compared to buying new.
Good sound, but I got tired of repairs, The sound quality of this device was perfectly acceptable--when it was working. After it refused to accept keyed commands, I sent it back for repair. Yes, it worked for awhile, but now it is not working again, giving weird beeps and refusing to record or play back. I am not hard on electronics, and I follow instructions. This was a real dud. I would send it back, but postage is getting so costly these days, it wouldn't be worth it. I am writing it off as a bad decision.
