It's amazing! If I had seen this product on a web site or read an ad I wouldn't have believed it. But the story is that a friend of mine owns one and I saw it actually working. It's fabulous! I visit several clients a week and each one of them has a different request. After that visit I have to write an adhoc proposal. Sometimes it's hard to remember everything so I've always taken notes on a notebook. Now I download everything from my Livescribe 4GB Echo Smartpen and I don't have to worry if a lose my notebook which has happened in the past. Besides of that I record parts of the meetings and don't have to furiously write like a madman. I sync all with both my PC and my netbook so I always sort of carry my precious little notebook with me. The recording quality is great take into consideration that I am always in small meeting rooms with few people never tried it in an auditorium. The possibility to download or email your notes as .pdf is also a very useful resource.I contacted them a couple of times with questions and they were really quick and courteous in answering. It does exactly what it says and does it beautifully. Definitively worth it.
Finest HW product SW needs lot of improvement. After few misdeliveries and then a double delivery I got my Livesrcibe 4GB.Has been using it for the past month or so. Fantastic instrument. No complaints except that it is little heavy and thick that may be because it has been long time we have used a real pen for writing.I am a electrical /semiconductor engineer for the past 25 years is WOWed!!!! I have been trying many writing instruments which connect with PC etc including recently the Bamboo Fun tabletbut find this most useful. The closest thing which comes to Livesrcibe is the Bamboo fun tablet but I needs lot of hand eye coordination which Livesrcibe eliminates i can see what I write on the paper so don't have to coordinate my hand to cursor on the screen. i don't use it for voice recording privacy concerns with fellow employees and IP concerns when using in technical meetings but very useful for scribbling ideas on a paper and it being uploaded to the computer Excellent!!! there are some cons1. you can print your papers in B&W no need to print in color. but the BW is darker than the paper in color. the reason is the color printer uses color intelligently to give human eye a better color balance and make it whiter. you can keep a color printed paper and B&W printed paper side by side and see the diff. but we can get over this.2. there is no landscape mode. BIG PROBLEM.3. the paper does not have menus to change color. Agreed that there is only one color refill at a time int eh pen but I would like it to record in diff colors for e.g. when two people are discussing something it is useful to change colors. or when I draw a graph I want to change colors at least for recording.4. the desk top SW has Huge problems. There is no way you can edit what has been recorded. for e.g. you draw some thing and then after uploading want to delete a paragraph. Sorry NOPE.5. Again there is no Landscape6. There is no way you can choose a portion of the recorded text or graph etc and change color.7. There is no way to hide the preview script which is shown in light grey and turns green when replaying this means if I recorded something and presenting to some one all the answers are already visible albeit dehighlighted. Irony is if you do a screen cast the screen cast SW allows completely hiding the preview. Looks like Live scribe's Left hand does not talk to right hand their SW groups I mean8.
The hardware is wonderful but the software is a piece of a trash The hardware is wonderful and it's very helpful to listen to the audio associated with your writing. If this was based on the pen alone it would be 5 stars. However I'm taking off two stars for the associated software. I don't know about the Windows version of Livescribe Desktop but the Mac version is riddled with bugs and has slowly become unusable. It constantly hangs which is inexcusable on a modern computer.
simply amazing This is by far the most fantastic piece of technology i have ever used with the exception of my ipad. the way you can convert notes to text works perfectly and the audio quality from recordings is wonderful. i have currently started writing a book and now that i have this pen i am able to rewrite things i already have without worrying about typing. i would recommend this product to anyone and i will update my review after using this in one of my lectures at my university.
Pen hasn't worked properly for 6 months At first I loved this pen and would have given it a 5 star review as many others have. However as sleek and stylish as this pen may be it appears to lack basic functionality one would expect. I purchased the 8 GB Pro Pack.My only use of the pen is to transfer audio from lecture onto my computer for studying purposes. Therefore I cannot review any of the pen's other features. However the pen appears to have major software issues which prevent successful transfer of files. My first pen quit transferring files and while I waited for customer service to fix the problem the pen BROKE. Apparently the hardware is designed in such a way that if the USB port fails you cannot recover any data stored on the pen so my data got lost. Customer Service replaced my pen.My second pen also quit transferring files after only a week! Customer service is currently in the process of troubleshooting the NEW REPLACEMENT pen which is also DEFECTIVE but every step results in an error for which customer service must be contacted again.Troubleshooting a pen is an incredibly timeconsuming process and if you're looking for an audio recorder for convenience this is NOT the product for you.
Amazing Pen I received my LiveScribe Echo Pulse 8Gb pen just before attending a conference. I took a substantial number of notes and each night returned to my hotel and uploaded them to my laptop for review. I was very impressed with the sound quality as well as the the software which allows me to play back the lecture at every point in my notes. I also found the OCR software that was included to be relatively accurate. Of course the text usually needs some cleanup but its better than having to do the whole thing from scratch. As a lawyer I anticipate finding this device useful in taking board minutes and during executive meetings and conference calls. I haven't experienced any of the problems other reviewers have noted as yet so I'll continue to put the pen through its paces.Installation of the software was easy and quick. Both the Desktop software which automatically updated after I started the installation and the MyScript ocr software installed without any problem. the only thing I've really found wanting is the lack of technical information in the instructions. For example my package didn't include a disk to install the software. Apparently you have to download the software from the Livescribe web site.
Something I wish I had in college I wish I had this when I was in college in the '60's. I use it for both business and personal such as when I go to the doctor. It helps me remember both with the notes as well as the audio. The only complaint I have is with the awkward shape of the pen barrel. A little thicker than what I am used to but I still find many uses for the pen. Everyone I have shown it to is amazed as to what it can do and I know that several people have purchased the pen based on my recommendation. It allows you to have both audio and written notes and everything is stored in OneNote. The 4gb Echo allowed my to record an all day seminar that I went to and that really aced the deal.I don't understand how the written notes are transcribed to the computer when they are uploaded but I sure do like the end results.Everyone should have one of these especially students in high school or college.
If you write much stay away. The technology in Livescribe's pens is fantastic. The pen itself needs a simple but significant fix. The ink is terrible. After using my Livescribe for a few weeks I gave up. The writing experience is just painful. I went back to my Parker with gel roller inserts for the ease and comfort. With the Livescribe I need to push too hard causing fatigue and strain in my hand.
Pleasantly Surprised My boyfriend purchased the Echo Smarpen 4GB along with the 4 notebooks and ink cartridge refills for my birthday. At first I hated the idea thinking that this would be about as useful as a Bamboo tablet which I had tried before and really hated. The product is absolutely amazing it is literally a paper tablet that records everything that you write and can audio record what is happening as you write it. This is insanely useful for students who frequently are frustrated by missing out on what a professor is saying because they are frantically trying to copy lecture notes or even worse powerpoint slides. The recording quality is good although I am getting the 3D headset that is supposed to vastly improve recording quality in a lecture hall. I would say this is an essential product for students.ProsIncredible replication of notes taken on paper into electronic notesAudio quality is fantastic and it is easy to flip through your notes and hear what was said exactly at that time. The menu at the bottom of the page is very intuitive and easy to use there is a menu printed on paper on every page! The dot paper does not seem any different than regular paper just nicer qualitySharing notes with friends and family is easy because the pen can understand commands. The accessories that you have to buy like dot paper notebooks are not at all overpriced. Notebooks are thick and cost about 5$ which is about the same as a 5 star notebook.Ink cartridges are easy to replace and again aren't very expensive about 1$ per cartridgeThe calculator works incredibly well!ConsVery difficult to get the pen to work on a mac had to peruse lots of forums to succeed.Pen is LARGE. My hand got very tired after an hour long lecture so that is something to consider. It would be awesome if the pen had wifi or even bluetooth technology bluetooth would be amazing! The protective cap is awkward and I am convinced that I will soon lose it.In order to convert handwritten notes into text you have to purchase a 3rd party application for $30 lame.
Livescribe 8GB Echo Two professors who often conducted extensive interviews had used and recommended the pen. The pen worked just like they said.By making written bookmarks in anticipation of each new bit of the interviews I found I was organizing the recordings as well as becoming more conscious about organizing the interviews as I conducted them.I also tried out the demo version of MyScript for the Echo which is used to convert hand written notes to editable text.
